Introduction:
The Master of Physiotherapy with Community Based Rehabilitation specialty is a dynamic academic course offered for qualified physiotherapists. It creates the opportunity for qualified and experienced clinicians to broaden their knowledge and clinical skills in community based rehabilitation field. The course recognizes the need to adopt principles of adult learning and emphasizes the importance of facilitating graduates to develop independent, self-directed and critical philosophies in the field of community-based rehabilitation. Currently there is shortage of qualified specialist Physiotherapist with Community Based Rehabilitation specialty. Hence, there is demand for this specialty and employment opportunities are excellent. This speciality of physiotherapy delivers preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to geriatric group, Women's health disorders, non- communicable diseases, palliative care and ergonomic advice etc. They can be employed in Super specialty hospitals, Government organization, Nongovernmental organizations, General hospitals, Teaching institutes, Rehabilitation centers, Handicapped schools and also can practice in Industrial setup independently.
Goals:
• To provide comprehensive training in community-based rehabilitation theory and practice, including the use of other physiotherapy modalities.
• To provide an opportunity for the students to take up a research project in the field of community-based rehabilitation.
• To provide students with quality clinical experience in hospitals and complementary health clinics from year one of the program.
• To ensure that students practice based rehabilitation, whilst integrating evidence-based physiotherapy information as appropriate, to ensure that graduates are safe and competent in the practice of Community physiotherapy universally.
• To provide an opportunity for higher education opportunity like post-doctoral study
Teaching programme
Under graduate:
• To outline the role of physiotherapy in Public health
• To be able to appreciate sociopsychological, cultural, economic & environmental factors affecting health
• To sharpen the communication skills of students so that they can guide the services of fraternity on the tracks to positive health.
• To strive for excellence in research aimed at developing appropriate strategies for prevention and cure of the diseases as per needs of the community.
• To identify the disability and set the treatment goals.
• To be aware of the national health care delivery system.
• To acquire the knowledge of assistive devices for rehabilitation.
Post- Graduate:
▪ To acquire knowledge and understanding of the diagnosis and treatment planning in geriatrics, women's health and industrial health.
▪ Empowering the students with knowledge, skills & positive attitude to work as a community physiotherapist.
▪ To produce health professionals capable of providing integrated preventive, promotive & curative health services to the community.
