Duration :

The duration of course is Four Weeks for regular batch and 8 weeks for Part-time batch.

Aims & Content :

The "Digital India" and “Skill India” initiatives of Govt. of India aims at ensuring the quality government services are made available to citizens electronically by reducing paper work. This initiative also includes plan to connect rural areas with high speed internet networks.

There is a renewed emphasis on inclusive growth and emancipation of common man and increased focus on mainstreaming rural India. This includes steps to bridge the urban rural digital divide. The rural tele-density has increased faster than urban tele-density in the past decade. In the context of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) as a tool for Rural Development, government of India announced a target of 40% rural tele-density by 2015 and expanding broad band coverage to connect every panchayat to a broadband connection by 2015.



Significance of The Course :

Digital India & Skill India play a key role in driving economic growth by creating new income-generating opportunities, making the delivery of public services more effective, transparent and efficient, connecting them to the world economy and overall contributing to the social and economic transformation of entire region. This kind of transformation is even more necessary for rural and isolated areas, where widespread access to ICTs and effective use of these technologies for productive purposes, can make a tremendous difference in development outcomes. The development and application of e-governance, e-agriculture, e-health centres will be more popular and attractive in rural areas.

Today there is no adequately trained manpower for manning the IT centers in rural areas, where skills for application of specialized software is necessary. Hence the proposed Certificate Course will aim to fill this gap.

Objectives of the Course:
  1. To Bring Out Competent Human Resources For Promoting The Applications Of Ict In Rural Development
  2. Acquire A Clear Understanding Of Theory And Application Of Information & Community Technology In Various Fields Of Rural Development Like Rural Health, Agriculture, Peoples Empowerment, Micro-Level Planning & Rural Governance, Continuing And Adult Education, Career Development, Self-Employment Training, Access To Developmental Information, Programs And Schemes Etc.
  3. Learn Practical Skills To Develop And Operate Local Area (Village) Portals (Websites), E-Health, E-Agriculture, E-Governance, E-Marketing, E-Weather, E-Empowerment Etc.
  4. Develop Skills Necessary To Make Social & Community Diagnosis, Write A Project Proposal, Generate Resources, Develop Tools To Monitor And Evaluate Projects.

Prerequisites & Admission procedure:
  1. Candidate should have a keen interest to learn ICT and apply in Rural Development, Rural Health, Agricultural Communication etc
  2. 10th Std. passed student
  3. Should pass an aptitude test conducted by CSM before admission
Interested candidates collect the prescribed application form and submit the duly filled & signed Admission Form along with the Certificates & two Passport Size Photos at the Office of Centre for Social Medicine, Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences – Deemed University, Loni.

Syllabus of The Course

Core Subjects
  1. Concept, Principles, and Scope of ICT in Rural Development
  2. Basic Computing Literacy & Skills Hardware, Software, Operating Systems (Windows, DOS, Word Processing, Spreadsheet)
  3. Basic Concepts & Applications of Intranet (LAN, WAN, Topology)
  4. Basic Concepts & Applications of Internet (WWW, Web Browsers, Surfing, Search Engines, Downloading, E-mail, Sky ping, etc)
  5. Creating Vernacular Software translators and interfaces
  6. Developing multi-media content and communication systems (DVD, CD, tele/video conferencing)
  7. ICT Applications in e-agriculture, e-awareness generation, e-banking, e-commerce, e-development, e-education, e-empowerment, e-entertainment, e-governance, e-health (human & veterinary), e-insurance, e-marketing,
  8. Applications of Local Area Portal (LAP) Software, Digital imaging and GIS mapping
Special Subjects (Choice based any two)
  1. ICT Application - e-health, net-consultation, net diagnostics, insurance
  2. ICT Application - e-agriculture, marketing, weather, livestock & veterinary
  3. ICT Application- e-governance, banking, commerce, education, empowerment, entertainment

Teaching Methodology

  1. Theory, Practical and Practice Session on Core and Optional Subjects
  2. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as per the guidelines of UGC, Govt. of India
  3. Participative learning & practice sessions at established Rural IT Centres
  4. Academic back up by experienced faculty

Awarding Certificate

Course Passing Certificate-cum-Credit based Performance Sheet will be awarded by Centre for Social Medicine, which is recognized by UGC, Govt. of India, New Delhi as a constituent unit of Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences-Deemed University, Loni, at the end of the course on successful completion of training and evaluation.
